Hummingbird in Kirkland

Nature and Landscape Photographer

Justin Prenton is a nature and landscape photographer based in Kirkland, near Seattle in the state of Washington (WA).

Many of his images are taken around the Pacific Northwest; Seattle, the Puget Sound, Washington and Oregon in the United States and British Columbia and Alberta in Canada.

Film Photography

Justin has had a strong interest in photography since his youth, finding that the elements of technology and creativity provided a unique combination and a journey of trial, error and discovery began. The love for 'taking' pictures quickly spread to developing and printing as he set up his 'wet' darkroom.

Whilst there was an element of magic associated with developing and processing film, it was also very time consuming. These practicalities, along with other interests made it difficult to dedicate enough time to photography.

Digital Photography

As digital photography developed in the late 90's and the quality of digital cameras' images began to surpass 35mm film, the passion with photography was rekindled. Although some of the romance has been lost and one no longer marvels at an image magically appearing on paper before one's eyes, the advantages of digital photography far outweigh any drawbacks. It offers instant feedback and images can be downloaded and viewed on a computer immediately. And although it still takes some time to process images on a computer, it can be performed in comfort and with far more control than offered in the 'wet' darkroom. Now Justin combines his interest for photography with his love of the outdoors and the Pacific Northwest has provided an unrivaled environment to combine these two passions.
